Nausea

Hello everybody!

Today I was going to write an article on UTI’s because I went out with a friend last night who was struggling with it. However, also last night I was up ALL night because I was nauseous and I think that might just be the worst feeling ever. SO Nausea won and I’ll do UTI another day.  I know that there is a very common well known alternative remedy for Nausea…Ginger. But that isn’t what I am going to talk about for a few reasons. Well first most people’s go to is Ginger ale…. I hate Soda, and its not a healthy solution so I am not going to promote it. Ginger is great if you want to use it as a spice or get an actual ginger root and use that… but most people don’t. I’d also like to point out that if you didn’t know Ginger helped Nausea, you do now! But I am going to talk about two other remedies that I find useful instead.

I was never really a drinker, so I didn’t really get the hangover nausea. When I got pregnant is when I learned about real Nausea. I say real because every kid throws up atleast once during there childhood. Or they  eat something funky, like chocolate chip pancakes that are actually plain pancakes… yup I did that.. Mold doesn’t taste good!  Then you get a belly ache which is Nausea I guess. But it’s nothing compared to how I have heard a hangover described and I know for a fact it’s got nothing on the all day every day nausea for 4 months during pregnancy.  So I had to find other options to help the misery.

Essential Oils is where I turned, but I used them in a different way. You don’t need to go out and spend 15-45 dollars on a tiny bottle of essential oil to ease your nausea. You can get the same effect for way cheaper and without the actual oil. The first one is peppermint essential oil. I used candy canes at first. Just suck on them, really it’s a miracle. Then I bought a peppermint plant from home depot or lowes, I cant remember which one. I used the peppermint leaves to make peppermint sun tea. So good, and it eased my nausea!

The Second option, because maybe you hate peppermints AND don’t drink soda, is Lemon essential oil. Again don’t go buy lemon essential oil, its not necessary….they get that stuff from lemons, the 50 cent lemons in the grocery store. Yes they will work. Scratch and sniff the peel just like those stickers from when I was a kid, or just cut it up and inhale a lot while you cut! Put the sliced lemons in anything you are drinking, or suck the juice from the lemon if you like sour! However you chose doesn’t matter as long as you can smell the lemony niceness and feel better!

Hope this helps! Lots of Love

Arthritis

Good Morning Fellow Farminsteadical Followers! Our Article today will discuss Arthritis! My mom has worked in a nursing home/ rehabilitation center for 23 years! When I was a little girl I loved going in to work with her. The dietary Staff always gave me ice cream, the therapy staff always let me pet the therapy dog, and the recreation staff always had puzzles for me to build with the patients! I will also add, the patients LOVED the extra company. Being on the floor with the CNA’s and RN’s I heard a lot of medical terminology at a young age. Now just because I heard the term arthritis at 4 does not mean I understood it because I have since learned that your name does not have to be Arthur for you to get Arthritis and the character on PBS kids named Arthur does not have Arthritis. Very deceiving to a little girl.

So as I aged and started to hear these crazy theories like someone named Wanda or Michael could have Arthritis, I had to go undercover and get to the bottom of the mystery. Well I am sure you know that I found out the rumors were true. The name Arthur has nothing to do with Arthritis. I also found out what Arthritis was and common treatments. I learned that there are over 100 different types of Arthritis and that Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in America. 50 Million Adults and 300,000 kids are suffering from it.  Did you know that there are some types of arthritis that can affect the eyes, heart, kidneys, lungs and skin? Usually treatment includes Analgesics, NSAIDS, DMARDS, and corticosteroids. Which can all be dangerous and have lasting side effects especially if taken long term for a chronic condition that gets worse with age like arthritis.

Alternative Remedies for Arthritis include Topical Aloe Vera because of its Anti-inflammatory properties. Vitamin A, B, C, and E act as anti-inflammatories and the gel helps to neutralize the toxins that inflammation produces. Boswellia or Frankinsense is another herbal remedy that has wonderful anti-inflammatory capabilities. Boswellia can be found and taken in tablet form or as a topical cream! Anti- inflammatories are so important in the treatment of Arthritis because a lot of the pain comes from the swelling of the joint. So if you can get the swelling of the joint down then you can reduce the amount of pain you or your loved one is in.

I thought Arthritis was an appropriate topic for the day because one of the leading alternative remedies for Arthritis is Aloe Vera and we just launched our newest product Alococo which is made of aloe vera and can absolutely help with Artritis! Find it here and Order now! https://farminsteadical.com/alococo/

Strech Marks and Tiger Stripes

Hello my beautiful Farminsteadicals followers! Today’s article will be on the bitter sweet stretch marks. Now before we get all crazy debating whether or not we should try and get rid of our precious tiger stripes I would like to point out that there are various causes of stretch marks, pregnancy is not the only one. Also, I know I am not the only mom out here who treasures my daughter and everything about her and our journey together BUT hate my stretch marks. I would be lying if I said I never get a little blue after scrolling through pre-pregnancy pictures. I would never go back I have no regrets, its just cosmetic and now I have the most amazing prize in the world ( my daughter). However, if I could have my daughter, and our journey from conception and no stretch marks…… I would have no complaints with that.

Now with this article, I cannot really verify quite yet that this is a perfect solution because its a recent creation to me…. I am using it currently but lazily. I will say, that is not for lack of results. My marks have definitely begun to lighten up and get less…deep if you will. I made this remedy about a month ago and I should be applying it twice or three times a day, but I am a forgetful mother with a lot of other things gong on and to be honest I have probably only put it on 10 times. That being said, I have used it 10 times and have already noticed results. I’ve made a personal goal for myself to try and use it ATLEAST once a day. We will see if I can get there.

For all you amazing moms and fantastic humans who maybe aren’t moms but we know you have an important story as well who are more organized then me and can remember this type of stuff regularly. It should work wonders for you. You’ll have to let me know I would love to share success stories, testimonials or before and after pics, anonymous or credited. Okay enough of my blabber I’ll tell you what I did now.

When I was growing up, my mom had an aloe plant that was my best friend being the rough kid that I was. This thing cured everything and it didn’t burn when you put it on like everything else did. Aloe Vera is the skins best friend, I’m sure you have heard of it for sunburns but did you know it can heal many other skin ailments as well? Another famous product in my house hold is coconut oil which is also amazing for your skin and hair. So I combined them. Many people know coconut oil is a great moisturizer and is good for wrinkles and face lines. If you didn’t know that, you do now!

I took a full Aloe leaf and cut it in half length wise so I had like 2 halves of a PBJ. All the gooey aloe gel on the inside was exposed. I put both halves in a pot with about a cup and a half of organic coconut oil. High heat, brought to a boil and then left for 2 minutes at a boil. I removed from heat, cut the aloe into tiny pieces and put the mixture in a shallow tupper ware container so I could access it easily. Once it cooled I rubbed it all over my marks. At first I put my concoction in the fridge, but when I went to rub it on, it was too solid and wouldn’t spread. So, I took it out of my fridge and put the mixture in a cabinet in an air conditioned room, so its cool but not cold. You don’t want it to get too hot either because it turns into an oily mess.

Aloe contains  Auxin and Gibberellins which are hormones, and this is what helps it to having healing and anti inflammatory properties. I hope this helps you to FEEL beautiful again, even though you are beautiful without it. Let me know how it goes!

Poison Ivy

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the hottest time of the year, and also the time of year where our children are off playing in the woods while we are gardening in the yard. Well atleast that is what’s happening at my house! With gardening and jungle play we get the all to well known POISON IVY.  Now if you are like me, Poison Ivy is obnoxious but not debilitating. However if you are like my husband, you are probably headed to the ER and calling out of work. No matter how poison ivy affects you, chances are IT DOES. Roughly 85 percent of the human population is sensitive to Urushiol which is the oil in poison ivy that causes the itchy rash. Poison Ivy is my husband’s Kryptonite. One little spot turns into a full body rash and my manly husband is whining like a hungry puppy and begging for prednisone.

I would like to take a second to let all my readers know that I am not entirely against pharmaceuticals, I think there is a time and a place for them. However, I also think that if they can be avoided, they should be. There are TONS of alternative ways to treat poison ivy BEFORE going after the steroids. Some of which I will talk about below. However, if the alternative remedies do not help enough getting medical attention is important to keep your mind body and soul happy and healthy!

My go to poison ivy treatment is apple cider vinegar. It’s a little smelly at first, but you’ll get used to it, and you probably wont care if it gets you the relief you are looking for. Apple Cider vinegar does two things to help the rash, first is create a toxin pulling effect which draws the poison (urushiol) out of you skin and literally dries out the rash. Secondly apple cider vinegar contains tannin which lowers an inflammatory response or reaction. I take a tri folded paper towel and  dip the end in a cup of apple cider vinegar and then wipe the wet portion of the paper towel on the rash 3-4 times a day.

Some people prefer a better smelling option like essential oils. There are 3 Essential oils that I have known to be anti inflammatory which can help in treating a poison ivy rash. Lavender is my favorite, rose and geranium are also anti inflammatory. The best way to use an essential oil for treatment of poison ivy is to add a few drops to a cold compress and place directly on the rash. Essential oils can be found in a lot of places like amazon, walmart, or your local health food store but you want to make sure you buy a therapeutic grade oil to avoid a skin reaction.  Always check with a health care professional before using essential oils as they can have adverse reactions on other medical conditions you may have.

The last remedy that I will list, (though there are many more) is Echinacea. This super plant is one of the ingredients in my Bee Well Honey because…well its super.  Echinacea is an immune booster first and foremost and also has been used to treat way more diseases and ailments then I can list. Well I could list them, but you would probably be so bored you’d stop reading and, that’s not really my goal here. When it comes to poison ivy echinacea can be taken as a supplement or as a tincture. You can take the supplement orally or dilute the tincture and put it on the rash directly with a cold compress several times a day.

I hope you never get poison ivy, but chances are you will and when you do I doubly hope that this article helps you survive the 2-3 weeks with minimal suffering. Thank you again for your continued support!

Lots of Love,

Mrs. Farminsteadical

Welcome

Hello,

Welcome to my blog! Id like to start out by saying thank you so much for visiting! My posts will normally consist of healthy and natural alternatives to pharmaceuticals and chemically based products. However, for my first post I wanted to introduce myself and give you a little look into my life so you know where I came from, why I do it and who you are talking to!

My number one priority in life, my goal, my inspiration, and my reason for literally everything is my daughter. She always comes first but she also gives me great ideas and adds quite the comedic flow to my stories with her sass, even though she is only 13 months old.

I started researching alternative wellness when I was about 10, my grandmother had owned the first health food store in Connecticut and talked about the amazing benefits that the majority of people had no idea about! I thought it was awesome that I could grow plants in my backyard and treat ailments of all the people around me. I loved making “medicine” and learning all the tricks. I took the Natural Health Consultant Course through Stratford Career Institute which I highly recommend and continued reading night and day about all the different ways and types of alternative wellness.

I make a living by working in the medical industry obtaining prior authorizations on drugs and procedures from insurance companies. This is another reason why I wanted to shed light on the alternatives. It’s no secret that insurance is expensive, and they make it so hard to get the medicine you need, and not to mention the price of the medicine. The whole system is just NOT consumer based, which is sad because we are trying to buy life saving or life altering drugs and procedures here not jump ropes and lollipops. People should have access to help regardless of there financial situation in my opinion and if we can achieve that and “go green” and help the eco system all at once….. I mean who wouldn’t be excited about that?
